A Romantic Way of Death

Water is such a pure source of every life. Personally, I really like the idea of water burial. And I could say that I prefer to have water burial for my funeral in the future. I am actually in love of water with fully respect, as I always think that I am born from water. Water burial is such a bark romance for funeral in my opinion. I like the idea of being back to water after dead, which represents of a feeling of return to the hug of mum. The softness of water is very similar to the way of mother's love with soft presentation but strong energy. Also one of the reason

So what I believe is that water burial is very romantic wishes and beautiful way in Chinese funeral history.

1st Touch to Water Burial

Chinese burial such as ground burial, sky burial and fire burial are very familiar to people, but there are not many people know about water burial in China, because it is a very rare burial way which just exists in a few ethnic.

"Born from water, end in water." which is the reason why people choose to have water burial as a belief in their life, and it is also the sentence made me to choose to explore water burial. As what these ethnics believe, their god is living in the river, water burial is a such way to respect life and their religion. They believe that people's soul can gain the sublimation through get touch to their god inside the river. Thus, water burial represents a beautiful wishes to the dead people to send their body into the divine river.

Fish has gain highly respect from those ethnics people in China, because they are regarded as the avatar of god in the river. So people never eat fishes in that area, and actually water burial is also a way to feed the fishes with the dead body, because they think if the body has been eatern by the fishes then the dead person has been touched by the god and has reached the heaven.

the first class inspiration

Death....

If you can decide, what kind of burial you would like to have?

As what I though about the studio of Deathliness, Decay & Decorum, the first class has led us to a deeper consider of death. to design a death wear is just something that I never think of and the meaning of death wear is also shocked me. The clothes for dead people have the meaning more than clothing, which are the respect of the dead person and important part of the burial. I can say that I have been protected from any burial when I was kid, so I haven't attended to a whole burial of my relatives. That is the reason why I never think of the meaning of the death wear, but now I am getting interested in it. It is such a creation of burial culture.

After watching the video in the class, rather than crying, I think whatever happened in the video is just nature. Death of a person is just a beginning of other's life. It is a very nature life circle that no one can avoid it. I think when we watch the death, should also think about the positive way of death, which is just another meaning of death. The end of life is a start.

That video is a great documentary to show us how to dress up a dead person in the western country. The way of those people dressing death wear is to present a peaceful look and alive mood with specific makeup. It is also a way to release some sadness from the family members of the dead person, because that is last chance to see their important person in their life, it has such a positive impact if that person look as usual as when he or she was alive.

The first class has made me imagine a lot about death and consider what burial culture I should research. Burial is such an important event in the Chinese culture during our 5000 years history. Therefore, I decided to focus on the Chinese burial culture, because burial is known as one of the representation of Chinese spirit. I am looking forward to have some research on the ancient burial in Chinese history. And I will decide which direction of Chinese burial I am taking in this week.
